Why “trending article” and “why the recent trending article is wrong” might both be right.

After several days of debate between the "trending article" people and the "why the recent trending article is wrong" people, I think many people are overlooking a way of triangulating things that may leave room for both groups.  Nobody reads this one, and by this point people have moved on to something else.
